SQL Server 2008 comes with new features to help you with the deployment, design, and support of Reporting Services and Analysis Services applications. In this session, we will explore these new enhancements for both products. This session will include an in-depth look at these features along with a heavy dose of demonstrations based on practical, real customer scenarios.

In the first part of the session, explore new features in Reporting Services 2008 including but not limited to:
  • Discover how IIS is no longer needed to host Reporting Services and how this can improve the deployment experience
  • Learn how we leverage SQLOS services to scale and combat issues such as OutOfMemory errors
  • We will explore how the new rendering model assists with performance gains while improving report output at the same time.
  • Discuss how to avoid problems when integrating Reporting Services with Microsoft Office Sharepoint Services.
  • Dive into the new Tablix control and how this helps you work with complex data.
In the second half of the session, we will turn towards new features in Analysis Services 2008 that will help improve the design, deployment, and support of your applications:
  • Learn how to use AMO Warnings to obtain real time notification of deviations from best practices.
  • Explore changes to the dimension wizard, schema generation wizard, and the dimension editor.
  • Review principles of aggregation design and examine the Aggregation Designer
  • Find out about scalable shared databases in Analysis Services 2008.
  • Learn about dynamic management views and watch as we query DMVs to interrogate the status of the server.
  • Learn about how to best take advantage of performance enhancements to the Analysis Services Engine.
